SkillUp & Back Pocket to host ‘Game On Cancer Day’ 2024 – a 12-hour charity stream raising funds to support vital cancer research

On Sunday June 23rd, Game On Cancer®, an initiative of Australian charity Cure Cancer, is holding its annual Game On Cancer Day charity drive to raise money for vital cancer research.

Hosted by SkillUp and Back Pocket, Game On Cancer Day will feature dozens of special guests from across Australia and the World, as they go live on SkillUp’s YouTube channel and the Back Pocket Twitch channel for 12 hours, fundraising via Twitch’s Charity tool and Tiltify.

Game On Cancer Day aims to bring a carnival feel to viewers over the 12-hour stream, with a day full of fun and games planned by the Back Pocket team with special guests including Greg Miller, Ben Starr, MinnMax, Alanah Pearce, and many more! Additionally, there will be plenty of prizes given away throughout the stream by Game On Cancer’s partners.

For this year’s event, all of the donations will go to supporting vital cancer research like Dr. Kevin Fenix’s work on the effectiveness of a new type of immunotherapy for metastatic bowel cancer at the University of Adelaide.

Dr Kevin Aaron Fenix, PhD, said ” I’m incredibly excited for this year’s Game On Cancer Day and the impact it will make in raising vital funds for cancer research! The gaming community’s support empowers researchers like me to push our work forward. The funds you raise will help me develop much-needed treatments for bowel cancer.”

This year’s goal is to raise over $100,000, which will help fund ground-breaking cancer research.

To date, Cure Cancer’s Game On Cancer® initiative has raised over $1,500,000 AUD for cancer research, which is enough to fund over seven years of research. Previous fundraisers have included some of Australia’s largest names in gaming like Loserfruit, IAmFallFromGrace, Bajo and AussieAntics.

Cure Cancer is dedicated entirely to funding early career researchers and to date has provided over 550 research grants to young scientists with ground-breaking innovative ideas, many who have gone on to become leaders in cancer research globally.

Viewers can show their support by following Game On Cancer® on Twitter, joining them on Discord, and most importantly tuning in and donating to Game On Cancer Day on June 23rd from 9am AEST on SkillUp’s YouTube channel and Back Pocket’s Twitch channel.
