Maltese-born chef Shane Delia takes us on an amazing culinary adventure to discover key ingredients to food from his home country of Malta and to the Middle East. This includes diverse countries such as Turkey and Iran. Not only is Shane Delia’s Spice Journey a food documentary about the various cuisines and traditions of these countries but it’s also a great travel documentary as well which showcases the people, cultures and amazing photography.

Another interesting element of this food documentary is that it includes some great links to history and how these recipes date back to powerful civilizations like the Byzantine Empire and even older such as the birth of saffron in Persia which is now modern day Iran.

Along the journey, Shane also learns new techniques, recipes and ingredients which he then brings back to Melbourne Australia to help incorporate into his modern cuisine. Having eaten at Shane’s restaurant before, The Maha, one can easily see where his influences have come from and his food documentary helps put things into perspective.

With that said, if you are looking for a very entertaining and insightful food documentary than I could I strongly recommend this series and by the end of it, you’ll be wanting to visit 21 Bond Street Melbourne to sample these amazing food creations.

Last but not least, this series is not like your traditional food documentary and provides the viewer with a wealth of information from different cultures, foods and a great history lesson. Deliciously Recommended!
