Registrations Open for Acer Predator League Academy
Registrations are now open for Acer Predator League Academy’s (APLA) term 2 tournament for high school students following the success of the program’s inaugural year in 2024, with some exciting changes unveiled for the 2025 competition.
The Acer Predator League Academy is a program that provides students across Australia and New Zealand with a structured and social format that empowers high schools to participate in esports, with competitive PC gaming becoming increasingly more popular. Acer Predator League Academy offers an avenue for young esports talent to grow their potential, giving students a structured and engaging platform to participate in competitive PC gaming.
The inaugural year of Acer Predator League Academy saw 56 teams across 31 schools in Australia and New Zealand participating across two school terms, with Border Christian College declared the inaugural winners of the APLA tournament. 2025 sees APLA adopt the highly popular title, Valorant at the game of choice for the tournament.
With 91% of Australian households owning a video game device, Predator Gaming continues to nurture and promote the esports industry, with APLA providing an avenue for high school students keen to pursue esports to grow their tournament experience.
Schools and students from across Australia and New Zealand are being encouraged to sign-up for term 2, with registrations closing 30th April 2025. A teacher is required to be a coordinator for each team. Participating teams of five students per team will battle it out via weekly competitions with other schools, playing the popular game, Valorant.
APLA advocate and popular PC gaming personality, Bajo, commented on the reinvigorated 2025 Acer Predator League Academy, “With pursuing a career in esports being taken more seriously with each passing year, it’s great to see tournaments such as Acer Predator League Academy paving a way for young Aussies and Kiwis looking to follow their dreams. Predator Gaming is giving high school students access to a platform that not only allows them to flex their skills, but also socialise and engage in some friendly competition with likeminded peers across ANZ. Plus – tournaments like this are the closest they’ll ever get to old fashioned LAN parties! I wish we had gaming laptops back then,” said Bajo.
Off the back its inaugural year, Predator Gaming has again partnered with video gaming marketing and game tech leaders Livewire to deliver the 2025 Acer Predator League Academy tournament, with Livewire Co-Founder Brad Manuel commenting, “The first year for Acer Predator League Academy was a resounding success, with Livewire proud to have worked with Predator Gaming to deliver the largest Fortnite tournament for students in APAC. We are looking to build on that momentum in 2025, with Valorant being introduced as the game of the tournament this year. We can’t wait to see some of the best and brightest high school esports talent battling it out, and are proud to be working with Predator Gaming to offer this opportunity to those looking to carve out a place for themselves one day on the international esports stage, with an increasing number of schools across ANZ exploring the connection between esports and education,” said Brad.
Term 2 winners will have the opportunity to compete against the Term 3 winners later this year, with the winning team to be crowned the 2025 Acer Predator League Academy champions.
