Summary: realme XT is indeed REAL ME and is great value for money!
4.5
Photography plus!
realme are one of the latest mobile phone companies to land in Australia (2019) and offer some very affordably priced smartphones that boast a plethora of high-end features at just $499AUD (Feb 2020). Today we’re checking out the realme XT that is a mid-range smartphone powered by a 2.3Ghz Qualcomm Snapdragon 712 processor, 8GB RAM, 128GB of storage and Australia’s first 64MP Quad Camera. It also comes in two colours that are pearl white and pearl blue (reviewed).
Highlights
· Australia’s first 64MP Quad Camera
· 8GB RAM + 128GB ROM
· In-Display Fingerprint
· VOOC 3.0 Fast Charging (0-55% in 30 minutes)
· 6.4” FHD+ Super AMOLED Fullscreen
Furthermore, the aesthetics of this phone screams high-end, particularly with its metallic case, 3D curved light-flowing glass and colour that literally shimmers in different lighting. It also comes with a powerful 4,000 mAh battery and more importantly feels good in your hands with its size (15.9 x 7.5 x 0.9 cm) and is quite lightweight at just 481 grams. Add in a very impressive super AMOLED Dewdrop screen with a resolution of 1080×2340 and images, text, apps and games will also come to life. Oh… it even has a system-wide dark mode to support your eyes and to help you unlock your phone faster, an in-display finger print reader.
Setting up the phone is very easy and once you follow the Android 9.0 wizard, you’ll be up and running in no time. While it has Android 9.0, it does use colorOS 6.0 which is a skin used by OPPO and gives your phone additional user-friendly features to help your overall smartphone experience. realme also include all the Google apps you need to get you started such as the Play Store, Chrome and your other day-to-day goodness.
While the phone easily navigates the operating system and apps without breaking a sweat, it also plays games quite well as well. If you need a better boost for your gaming, it does offer Hyper Boost to help make your games run smoother. Now while there are other phones out there that are faster for gaming, this phone shines in other areas and that is its camera system. For benchmarks, the phone did score as a midrange phone with 3DMark Sling Shot Extreme at 1909 and Geek Bench (320 single core / 1505 multicore).
As stated, it has Australia’s first 64MP Quad Camera that allows you to take photos with a resolution of 9216 x 6912 which produce super clear images with vibrant colours. It’s ultra-large 1/1.72″ GW1 64MP sensor is up to 34% bigger than a 48MP sensor and has four-in-one intelligent pixel binning, including a F1.8 large aperture and a 6P lens with superior light-gathering capability which definitely gives high-end smartphones a run for their money. In other words better picture quality!
Also complimenting the camera system is the ability to take photos at 119 degrees ultra wide and on the flip side, a 4cm macro lens. Selfie lovers will be pleased with the 16MP front facing camera However enough talk and let’s check out some images that we have taken with the realme XT below;
As you can see, the realme XT takes some impressive shots and while it does struggle in low-light (at times) as the najority of smartphone cameras do, it’s still hard to believe that this phone is just $499 in terms of the quality photos it has taken. Needless to say, if you’re looking for good photography, the realme XT handles this aspect very well.
Final Thoughts?
At just $499AUD (Feb 2020), the realme XT is great smartphone that is fast, has a super clear screen, excellent battery life and overall good photography capabilities. Add in its stylish design and this phone ticks all the right boxes for a smartphone that comes highly recommended from Impulse Gamer!
