Radeon VS NVIDIA: The Battle Continues – GeForce 4060 vs Radeon RX 6750 XT / Old vs New

If you’re a PC gamer, you are more than aware of the competition between Radeon and NVIDIA that just like a Call of Duty vs Battlefield gamers, there are loyal acolytes in both camps who are not afraid to state why their game is better. The same is also true with Radeon and NVIDIA, however if you’re a PC gamer on the fence (like myself), this healthy competition offers some excellent choices (particularly if you’re on a budget) to help bring your games to life thanks to advanced technology used to power these graphics cards.

So if you’re budget is around $500AUD (July 2023)… keep reading!

With the launch of the all-new (2023) GeForce 4060, you might be considering this new card from NVIDIA because it definitely delivers a gaming card, however the 2022 Radeon RX 6750 XT should also be on your list. Why?

While both cards are similarly priced, the RX 6750 XT is cheaper with specifications that place them in the same graphics card category and AMD have recently launched some new tweaks to their drivers and software that increases performance.

So before we jump into it, let’s check out the official specifications between both graphics cards;

Side by side and with their price range, both cards share some parallels, including subtle differences. The most noticeable difference is that the RX 6750 XT has an additional 4GB of RAM with the RTX 4060 GAMING having 8GB.

Then you have AMD’s Stream technology vs NVIDIA’s CUDA cores. So what’s the difference?

They actually serve the same purpose, however the technology is quite different but they are very important on how they create these amazing graphics worlds. The key is that the gaming developers need to ensure they cater for both systems which thankfully they do. Of course the higher these numbers, the more graphical processing capabilities the card has.

Another difference is that the memory bandwidth is higher on the Radeon, however the GeForce card uses a lower process technology that improves efficiency. Lastly the Radeon RX 6750 XT GAMING OC is a slightly larger card and requires a minimum 650W PSU 8-pin, 6-pin configuration compared to the 450W PSU 8- pin setup which needs to be taken into consideration when upgrading or building a new rig.

Both cards can run games at 4K, however for the best graphical experience with full detail, 1440p is the ideal resolution. With that said, 1080p and 4K are still perfectly acceptable, however except a considerable frame drop with 3840 x 2160. So without further ado, let’s benchmark at the highest graphical detail on all games!

Test System

  • Motherboard: ASRock Z790 Pro RS1
  • Cooler: Corsair iCUE H150i Elite Capellix (water Cooler)
  • Power Supply: Super Flower Leadex Platinum SE 1000W

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla

In Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, you play as Eivor, a fierce Viking warrior raised on tales of battle and glory. Part of the Assassin’s Creed franchise, Valhalla is one of the better ones and Ubisoft have created a vast and detailed graphical open world set against the brutal backdrop of England’s Dark Ages that visually looks mind-blowing.

Radeon RX 6750 XT (FPS) GeForce RTX 4060 (FPS)
1080p 102.1 87.3
1440p 75.4 63.2
4K 42.3 35.2

As you can see from the above benchmarks for Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, the Radeon RX 6750 XT easily trumps the GeForce RTX 4060 in terms of performance, including a 20% performance boost on the Radeon card at 4k. When it comes to 4K, the higher is better but in terms of a frame-rate, a minimum of 30 is required to at least make the game playable.

Cyberpunk 2077

Cyberpunk 2077 from CD Projekt RED (The Witcher series) was a highly ambitious game that unfortunately was plagued by launch issues that for some made it unplayable, however since then, these issues have been fixed to create an engaging Cyberpunk RPG experience. In the game, you are V, a cyber-enhanced individual who has been tasked of taking down the MegaCorps and cyber gangs who control every aspect of life. Of course to experience this game at its best, you need a decent graphics card and the GeForce 4060 vs Radeon RX 6750 XT tick that box.

Radeon RX 6750 XT (FPS) GeForce RTX 4060 (FPS)
1080p 87.2 73.1
1440p 57.2 44.3
4K 23.8 19.8

For Cyberpunk 2077, the Radeon RX 6750 XT is the clear winner over the GeForce RTX 4060 for both 1080 and 1440p. 4K on both systems with high detail is unfortunately a no-go, however you can tweak the graphical detail.

Elden War

ELDEN RING is developed by FromSoftware Inc. and is their most ambitious action-RPG to date  and if you like a challenge, this game is for you. In the game, the Golden Order has been broken and world in tatters but with your help, you can restore the order. If you are a fan of Dark Souls this game is for you and the developers should be commended on creating a spectacular open-world RPG that looks like it has been inspired by the Game of Thrones and again, the attention to detail and gameplay is fantastic on a graphics card that meets it criteria to run.

Radeon RX 6750 XT (FPS) GeForce RTX 4060 (FPS)
1080p 76.5 92
1440p 65.2 68.3
4K 43.5 38.9

On the flipside, the GeForce RTX 4060 does offer better gameplay for Elden Ring, although the Radeon RX 6750 XT did win at 4K that is probably due to the increased ram of the card itself.

God of War

God of War is the hit PlayStation 5 game that has made its way onto the PC as players are reunited with the enigmatic and kick-ass protagonist, Kratos. Like all games from developers Santa Monica Studio, it is a flawless fast-paced gaming experience with next-gen graphics and gameplay to truly draw you into the world of Kratos. However at times, these PlayStation ports on the PC have had issues but thankfully this is not the case on either the GeForce 4060 vs Radeon RX 6750 XT with both cards delivering a very smooth gaming experience.

Radeon RX 6750 XT (FPS) GeForce RTX 4060 (FPS)
1080p 93.2 78
1440p 75.4 61.2
4K 47 39.1

Lastly, God of War. Again the Radeon RX 6750 XT is the clear winner but both systems offer a very playable title, however for that smoother gameplay, the Radeon is the way to go.

Final Thoughts?

While PC gaming tech has a shelf life, you should never presume that new tech is superior. Rather, it is dependent on a number of factors because the $2000 card of 2023 is still a contender in 2024. This is also true with the Radeon RX 6750 XT GAMING OC 12G that proves an older card is still able to offer a fast gaming experience and best of all, it’s cheaper than its latest competitor. So while the Radeon VS NVIDIA battle continues, for now the 2022 Radeon RX 6750 XT is the victor over the 2023 GeForce 4060.
