LocoRoco 2
LocoRoco was easily one of the most
original and entertaining games of the year and thankfully Sony Computer
Entertainment have revisited the franchise again in LocoRoco 2. The
essence of this game is the pure simplicity of the title which truly
invigorates the platform franchise.

In the game, the player controls a race of
strange globulous creatures who roll there way through the gaming world.
These creatures also join with other LocoRoco's and become bigger and
bigger, however there are some key gaming tactics in order to
successfully complete the title such as enemies and also items to
collect.
The developers have taken LocoRoco 2 to the next evolutionary phase of
this addictive arcade platform title which is almost as good as the
original. The main difference compared to the previous version is the
amount of items that can now be collected by the gamer that are hidden
throughout the gaming environment.
For instance, by finding all the musical
notes in the level, this will “level-up” your current environment which
assists your little LocoRoco’s collect even more berries and pikories.
Other impressive features is the ability to collect Mui Mui’s and when
you reach a certain limit, this will unlock a mini-game within the title
that is great for not only replayability but also longevity.
Even the “combat” aspects of the title
which I phrase quite loosely have been changed and redirected that adds
even more quirkiness into the game such as the Mui Mui weapons. Of
course, the main hero of the game are still the LocoRoco’s that you
collect and roll around the environment and the more you collect, the
larger your mass will become, although sometimes you need to split in
order to enter tunnels and the like.
The game still maintains its perfect
simplicity with its controls as you use the shoulder buttons to move
your blobs from left to right that can also jump at times and also avoid
or “defeat” your enemies. The original title was quite easy at times,
however the sequel has been spruced up which allows for detailed and
trickier gameplay from more spikes to vertigo inspired gaming
environments that will leave you spinning.
There are even some great swimming
environments as you move around in the liquid which is quite
entertaining and match that with the ability to control other
"ball-like" vehicles and this truly takes this game to the next level.
The mini-games are quite interesting, although not as fun as the main
gameplay but it does add to the uniqueness of the title such as the
ladybirds who propel you through the level.
With amazing simplistic and likeable graphics, LocoRoco 2 features a
great addictive soundtrack and really funny and cute sound effects which
will have you playing time and time again as you attempt to complete the
game.
With such a original game, LocoRoco 2 is a
worthy successor the franchise and is definitely a game to play over the
Christmas break. Brilliant gameplay, good graphics and a soundtrack to
boot, this is one game that is a must have for the PSP. |
