Resident Evil Outbreak File 2
Resident Evil Outbreak File 2 tells the story of
eight regular people that were brought together during the events of the
original Resident Evil games. The characters come from a variety of
backgrounds and have their own individual strengths and weaknesses. For
instance, the subway worker Jim can play dead when surrounded by enemies
and the doctor George is extremely good at mixing medicines and other
chemicals.
Before each mission, the player chooses one
main character to play as and a couple of AI controlled team mates to
provide some extra backup. The controls are similar to those from the
previous PS2 Resident Evil games. However, there's an extra layer of
complexity in the Outbreak series, though as you're not only trying to
directly control your main character but also interact with your team
mates through a convoluted system of shared inventories and shouted
commands.
With that said, players are unfortunately
stuck with helplessly yelling out overly vague one-liners in hopes of
communicating with their team mates. New additional commands like
shouting out what room you’re in or telling someone you’re sorry
unfortunately don't make the distance.
Somehow shouting "help," "come here," and "go" just doesn’t do much for
the conversation piece and ultimately ends up causing as much confusion
as humanly possible.
Unfortunately the implementation of a few
new features do not warrant a purchase of this title as the developers
have forsaken to fix the bugs from the original title that could of been
one interesting experience. However, if you're looking for some action
till the next Resident Evil game (in other words, you're a die hard
fan), then you might want to check this game out but unfortunately the
repetitive gameplay and clunky controls make this title almost
unplayable.
Graphically Resident Evil Outbreak features
some beautiful environments and very nice character models that really look
like a great Resident Evil title and add some impressive background
environments and this is one impressive looking title. A shame about the
gameplay though.
When it comes to sound effects, the sound
effects have been directly taken from previous titles but unfortunately
the character acting overpowers the sound effects with needless
communication and dribble. Once again, the beautiful musical score of the Resident
Evil series makes a welcome return for some great background ambience.
In conclusion, Resident Evil Outbreak File 2 is
an interesting game that unfortunately fails to deliver and considering
the beautiful graphics of this title, it's a real shame. Recommended to
fans of the series only!
