Power-up!

If you’re looking to power-up your gaming on the Xbox Series X or S, PowerA have released their Fusion Pro Wireless Controller with Lumectra controller that boasts a wealth of features to hopefully give you that edge in your virtual worlds. Although the controller is reminiscent of the Xbox Series X controller, it adds various pro features such as the ability to adjust the height with three settings of each thumbstick without the need for swapping the sticks.

The thumbsticks are also supported by Hall Effect Modules that provide far more accuracy than regular sticks due to their contact-free magnetic sensors. Also supporting the wireless performance of this controller is a USB dongle (up to 30 hours of wireless) that simply connects into the Xbox Series X|S, including Windows 10/11 machines for a low latency “pro-gamer” connection. For Xbox and PC, the dual rumble motors (DualShock on PlayStation or Rumble on Xbox) allows you to feel each bump or shot in the game which really helps with gaming immersion.

Aesthetically the controller looks great and its RGB lighting makes it quite distinct when compared to its competitors because of the various effects and zones that come to life with a myriad of colours. “Dubbed” Ghost RGB LED lighting, it offers 6 lighting modes across 4 customisable zones and we’ve included some photos below to see how the PowerA Fusion Pro Wireless Controller with Lumectra becomes a 16.9 million multi-coloured rainbow.

As mentioned, the battery can last up to 30-hours but that is dependent on a number of factors such as what features you are using, if RGB is enabled and even distance to the console. Thankfully it comes with a magnetic charger that makes charging a breeze – you simply pop the controller on the charger and presto, its chargin’ time! Another nice feature is that it also comes with a high quality 3-metre braided cable and also a protective case to keep your new favourite gaming “weapon” safe.

From an audio perspective, you can connect an external headset via the 3.5mm port. Two additional buttons are also available for sharing screenshots or videos with the share button and a profile button that allows you to swap between 3 different profiles.

Using this controller for the last few weeks, it feels great in your hands and is a good weight of just 0.654 kg. It also measures at 15.59cm (L) x 10.7cm (W) x 6.06cm (H) that again makes it reminiscent to the Xbox One or Xbox Series X|S controllers. It is ergonomically built with its textured rubberized grips that makes it perfect for longer than long gaming sessions. To assist with fatigue levels, PowerA have embedded anti-friction rings that reduce resistance.

So yes it reads amazing on paper! But how does it play in the real-world? Exceptionally well! I love the Xbox Series X controller but this seriously is my new Xbox controller because it feels more responsive to my gaming needs and I love the RGB colours that are sorely lacking on the standard next-gen controllers.

Titles such as Call of Duty Black Ops 6, Halo Infinite, Diablo IV, Mortal Kombat 1, Starfield, Microsoft Flight Sim and Forza Motorsport performed very well with the PowerA Fusion Pro Wireless Controller. There was also zero drift as well that made by Forza experience super flawless. Further, its weight is well-balanced and buttons, triggers and thumbsticks are very responsive. I also love the ability of changing the height of the thumbsticks as well and once I’ve finished gaming, I placed it onto the charger to charge so I never needed to use it via the USB-C cable.

However to fully utilise the controller, you do need to install the PowerA Gamer HQ App which is available for both Xbox and PC that allows you to fine-tune the controller, including all facets such as the RGB lighting, triggers, rumble settings, dead zones and audio. Kudos to PowerA for making the app super simple to navigate as well. So yes, if you’re a gamer and need a power-up, the PowerA Fusion Pro Wireless Controller with Lumectra does just that.

Final Thoughts?

Third party accessories can either be a hit or a miss, however with the PowerA Fusion Pro Wireless Controller with Lumectra, the developers have smashed this out of the park that provides Xbox gamers with a fantastic gaming controller. Not only does it have all the bells and whistles but it is almost lightspeed in terms of its wireless responsiveness. The controller is available at all good retailers and online for $199AUD (November 2024).

Highly Recommended!
