Maths Made Easy 1

Once again Scholastic come to the rescue of parents with Maths Made Easy (Ages 5 - 7) that is based on the actual key learning aspects of the Australian maths curriculum. Not only will this software package teach children a number of lessons regarding real-world mathematics but it comes at an affordable price of $19.95 and still maintains one of the lowest computer requirements, ensuring that this software package will work on the majority of computers.

Maths Made Easy simply autoinstalled when the CD was detected by the computer and after a few clicks of the mouse, the software was ready to be used. I must once again applaud Scholastic for their easy installation of their software packages, therefore making it accessible to a wider computer market. Even if you do get stuck, Scholastic has a wonderful support via their website at www.scholastic.com.au.

The program supports a full year of math sessions for each year group with a total of 24 individual units that cover the following sessions:

  • 2D and 3D space

  • Position, patterns

  • Graphs

  • Length

  • Mass

  • Area

  • Volume

  • Temperature

  • Problem solving

  • Addition

  • Subtraction

  • Multiplication

  • Division

  • Fractions

  • Money Problems

The interface between Maths Made Easy 1 is extremely intuitive and easy to use, making this software package a great compendium for children between grade 1 and grade 3. The mini-games in the title are varied and interesting and contain various exercises to help children master basic mathematics through visual recognition.

Graphically, the title isn't as impressive as many of the other Scholastic titles on the market at the moment but the graphics are cute, colourful and meaningful which do fulfill the job required. Match that with some great sound effects and you have one entertaining and educational program for children between the ages of 5 to 9.

In conclusion, Australian software developers Nightingale Software have done a brilliant job at making Maths Made Easy 1 interactive, fun and interesting that will definitely improve the skills of your children. Based on the Australian maths curriculum, there is little to fault with this program and if you wish to give your children that extra edge in school, then you really should check this program out. Recommended!
