Priced at a very affordable $149.95AUD (August 2024), the new G309 Lightspeed Wireless Mouse packs a punch when it comes to gaming. Firstly, the mouse supports both LIGHTSPEED (via a dongle) and Bluetooth dual-wireless connectivity, LIGHTFORCE (Mechanical / Optical) hybrid switches and HERO 25K prevision tracking in order to register and act on your responses immediately. Further, when using Logitech’s LIGHTSPEED wireless technology, it ensures low-latency and excellent responsiveness to provide lightning quick game on your virtual battlefields.
From a design perspective, the G309 LIGHTSPEED channels its inner gaming aesthetics from Logitech with a sturdy professional build and excellent placement of controls. It is also quite lightweight at just 86 grams and is powered by one AA battery. You can go even lighter if you have the Logitech POWERPLAY Wireless Charging System ($229AUD August 2024) that basically allows you to remove the AA battery that drops the weight of the G309 to just 68grams as the mat provides the power. Very cool and it’s available in two colours… black and white (reviewed).

The Unboxing
As you can see from the above images, the G309 looks the part with curves and edges in all the right places.
I also love the feel of the switches of the G309 thanks to the LIGHTFORCE hybrid switches which is an amalgamation of optical and mechanical switches that not only provides instant results but the mechanical switches provide that important actuation feedback when you click. Hopefully Life = 1, Death = 0. Further, the ergonomics of the mouse is great and feels very comfortable in your hand which also slides well on my desk.
What about battery life? Depending on usage, the G309 LIGHTSPEED could potentially last up to 300 hours via the high-speed dongle and even longer with Bluetooth. That in itself is quite a feat and Logitech should be commended and from past experience, Logitech wireless mice manage their power consumption better than their competitors and the G309 is basically 4-hours a day for 75-days! Amazing!
The Setup
The mouse will work straight out of the box but to optimise the device, you do need to install the LOGITECH G HUB which allows you to remap and reprogram the buttons, including tweaking the speed of the DPI (100 to 25600). It’s definitely the brain of the G309 and is quite a well-rounded app from Logitech without any bloatware.
The Battlefield
When it comes to heroics on the battlefield, the G309 is a fast wireless gaming mouse that worked well on titles such as Call of Duty Modern Warfare III, Overwatch III and Doom Eternal. The HERO 25K sensor is super accurate, including on different surfaces as this really expands where you can use this wireless mouse. Another excellent test for this mouse was photo manipulation in Adobe Photoshop thanks to the high quality sensor. Lastly, surfing the net, general Windows and app use, the G309 again performed exceptionally well.
Final Thoughts?
The LOGITECH G309 LIGHTSPEED Wireless Mouse delivers a responsive and accurate wireless mouse courtesy of this company’s wireless technology. It also serves as an excellent Windows mouse that can be used via Lightspeed or Bluetooth. Additionally it feels great in your hand, buttons are responsive and have that satisfying click plus the battery life of up to 300+ hours is unparalleled and best of all, it is perfectly priced at just $149AUD (August 2024)
