LENA MOON presents RUBE GOLDBERG MACHINE

Comedian, writer and streamer Lena Moon is set to bring her debut solo Rube Goldberg Machine to the Melbourne International Comedy Festival. After five years performing with her best friend as one-half of Annie and Lena, she’s stepping into the spotlight on her own with a stand-up hour full of hilariously overcomplicated chaos.

About the show

A Rube Goldberg Machine is a machine created with the intent of making simple tasks harder.

Lena Moon is one of those, despite her best efforts.

It’s 2022 and Lena Moon has just moved into her first solo apartment – where better for her first solo show to start? It’s a small space, motel in layout with no outside space. Most of the windows don’t open but that doesn’t matter because one of them has a giant hole cut into it waiting for a fan that never came. A visual metaphor Lena hopes isn’t a sign of her future in comedy.

Directed by Emma Holland, this show is about Lena trying to perform the simple task of purchasing a projector from JB Hifi to put in her new home,
and every step that was taken to make this simple task harder for herself.

Expect tales of overcomplicated work environments, life as a Twitch Streamer, funny stories about growing up with a Mum that followed a Guru
from India whose peace talk tour recently sold out Margaret Court Arena in Melbourne, and musing on Lena’s love affair with fail videos, sign making andtiny dishes.

About Lena

If you don’t know Lena from her sketch duo Annie and Lena, streaming on Twitch, her improv troupe Something Good that has weekly shows at Comedy Republic, or her work in TV (Thank God You’re Here, Aunty Donna’s Coffee Cafe/ Most Upsetting Guessing Game, Good Game Spawn Point) consider this show the most articulate and hour-long introduction  she can make to you.

This will be her debut solo hour, after working for five years with her best friend in their duo Annie and Lena. The pair are by no means over, they’re just resting this year, so this show is Lena’s chance to tell some funny stories from her life that would be weird to have her sketch partner standing next to her for.

Other accolades for Lena include her involvement in the ABC Fresh Blood program with the Starship Q Star team where she wrote and voiced on the animated series, as well as wrote and voiced on the award winning podcast that inspired the shorts. She’s also appeared in two feature films, AACTA nominated The Emu War and MIFF 2024 pick The Organist where she was described as ‘effervescent’ and a ‘true hit’ by Screen Hub.
