Summary: Kingston once again prove why they are a leader in computer memory and the HyperX Predator DDR3-2666 8GB KIT is no exception from that rule. This memory does improve your overall computer performance and whether it's from compressing files, playing games or just general computer usage, the RAM will assist in all facets. The only draw back of the RAM is that the headspreaders may be a little tall for some cases but apart from that, it's flying!

Kingston gave Impulse Gamer the chance to review their latest HyperX Predator RAM which included a set of two 4GB DDR3 2666 RAM that boasts the following specifications;

  • Capacities 4GB–32GB (with 4GB, 8GB, 16GB and 32GB kits)
  • Speeds up to 2666 MHz
  • 1.5V & 1.65 V operating voltages enable stable overclocking
  • Intel XMP Ready; optimized performance settings handpicked and tested by Kingston engineers
  • Dual Channel kit tailored for P55, H67, P67, Z68, H61 (AG), and Z77 Intel chipsets; as well as A75, A87, A88, A89, A78, and E35 (Fusion) AMD chipsets

At its core, the HyperX Predator RAM is definitely built for gamers and overclockers who want the best performance possible from their computer system, especially with its heatspreaders. It’s definitely some of the faster RAM available and unlike brand “X” memory, Kingston ensure that the RAM is shipped securely in the protective packaging. The RAM itself has the familiar Kingston blue of the HyperX memory series with the Predator logo below it. In terms of height, the memory measures in at 53.9 mm due to the heat spreader and may be tricky to install in some systems.

Our test machine for the RAM included the following;

  1. Intel Core i7-3960X Processor
  2. ASUS P9X79 Motherboard
  3. Cooler Master M2 520W Silent Pro Power Supply
  4. Windows 7 64 ultimate

The first program that we used on the RAM was AIDA64, the Extreme Edition which is a diagnostic benchmarking tool for PC’s and is one of the most comprehensive tools available. As you can see from the results, they were quite impressive and compared to some of our previous tests, the HyperX Predator RAM is definitely on the top end of the spectrum.

Memory Read: 24392 MB/s
Memory Write: 22982 MB/s
Memory Copy: 27718 MB/s
Latency: 30.9 ns

MaxMemm 2 was another memory testing benchmarking tool that is also designed to get the most out of your memory, especially when it comes to overclocking. MaxMemm 2 Produced similar results to AIDA.

Memory Read: 26234 MB/s
Memory Write: 23191 MB/S
Memory Copy: 26482 MB/S
Latency: 39.2

We also tested the RAM with 3DMark11 one of the world’s leading bechmarking tools for gamers and compared with our previous RAM, we managed to improve the total score by 285 points which is a huge step. Although other people have managed to overclock this RAM from Kingston, we did not test the modules as they needed to be sent back to the company but from our research, we did hear of some significant stable speed improvements.
