However there’s nothing wrong with looking great while your gaming rig builds these amazing virtual worlds of play, which is where aesthetics come into play. Clear cases and RGB lighting maketh the “gaming case” and if you have the right motherboard, then Kingston has something very special for you.
Ladies and Gentlemen, I introduce you the Kingston FURY Renegade DDR5 RGB Limited Edition Memory (KF580C36RLAK2-48) that is a 48GB (8000MT/s) kit of 2 modules that have not only been engineered for top performance and stability but also for style as this RAM channels its inner Ferrari speed demon. The module also includes profiles for DDR5-7200 and DDR5-6400, with tighter timings
Physically, this kit of 2 modules from Kingston mirrors elements of a race car with its streamlined edges with a red and black heat spreader which really makes it stand out in your gaming system. Add in RGB lighting and your system will come to life with over 16.8 million colours.
- MT/s is short for megatransfers (or million transfers) per second and is a more accurate measurement for the effective data rate (speed) of DDR SDRAM memory in computing.
And yes, you read correctly… 8000MT/s with CL36 timings.
Further, only certain motherboards support the 8000MT/s technology for RAM so again, please check with your manufacturer prior to purchase. However, if your motherboard can support these high speeds, you’re in luck and additionally it works in union with their Infrared sync technology so you can have cohesive RGB lighting effects. With the lighting, each module has 12 ARGB LEDs on the top of the RAM to illuminate your world. Further, this kit is Intel XMP 3.0 certified that makes tweaking timings, frequencies, voltages a breeze… in other words overclocking!

The FURY Renegade DDR5 RGB Limited Edition Memory is beautifully packed from Kingston and as it is a limited edition, its presentation is high-end. Once out of the box, the DDR5 measures at 133.35mm x 45.8mm x 8.26mm plus the kit comes with two impressive looking memory modules.

The black and red colouring on the heatsink really makes this RAM standout from the competitors with the other highlight being the 12 LEDs on the light bar which is where all the RGB magic occurs thanks to the FURY CTRL technology which boasts 18 customisable effects. The Kingston FURY Renegade also utilises their patented Kingston FURY Infrared Sync Technology that helps your lighting stay aligned.
Fury CTRL app
The Kingston Fury CTRL app is actually quite a decent app (and small) which easily allows you to adjust the colours of the lighting, including effects such as breath, dynamic or flame. Furthermore, it’s quite a responsive app.
For testing, we trialled the Kingston FURY Renegade DDR5 RGB Limited Edition Memory with the following main components (Motherboard: MSI MPG Z790I EDGE WIFI, CPU: Intel i9 14900K, GPU: ASUS GeForce RTX 4070 Ti Super Strix OC, Drive: Samsung 990 PRO 4TB PCIe 4.0 NVMe M.2 SSD) that included a fresh install of Windows.
Overclocking
Undeniably, this RAM from Kingston has been made for speed and is definitely one of the fastest products available. At the standard 8000MT/s settings, the Kingston FURY Renegade DDR5 RGB Limited Edition Memory is a force to be reckoned with, however with some careful tweaking, we managed to push the RAM to 8400MT/s and more importantly with stability. Is it possible to go even further? Potentially there is, however in my modest testing, I wasn’t “game” enough to challenge the board and the RAM but it was very stable at 84000MT/s.
Benchmarking
The first test was AIDA64 which provides system information, diagnostics, and auditing capabilities that has a very comprehensive memory test. It can also help troubleshoot memory, especially if you are overclocking at higher MT/s and you’re trying to find that right balance because you don’t want the memory to fall over during gaming or other performance driven applications. There is also a free version of AIDA64 available that I would recommend you try if you’re seeking to overclock your memory and benchmark it.
As you can see from the above tests, this limited edition from Kingston scored quite high given the speed of this RAM.
PassMark
PassMark runs heavy mathematical calculations that stress the CPU’s performance at compression, encryption, and physics-related tasks. The performance test is quite a resource driven app and there was some improvement from overclocking the RAM. Given that, it still scored quite high compared to its competitors.
MAXXMEM 2.0
MAXXMEM 2.0 is a benchmark designed to help you measure your memory’s performance. It uses current technologies like SSE, MMX, scheduled threading and further techniques, including an accurate time measurement that provides reliable, consistent results. Like other benchmarking programs, it provides users with an easy comparison with other machines.
MAXXMEM 2.0 again cemented the speed of the Kingston FURY Renegade DDR5 RGB Limited Edition Memory which squarely places this as some of the fastest RAM that I’ve used. Overclocking was stable at 8400MT/s that proves this RAM can handle both speed and performance.
And what about gaming? Gaming is a sum of all parts and it helps if you have the best CPU, GPU, Motherboard, RAM and of course SSD NVMe. We tested the RAM with Cyberpunk 2077 with the ASUS GeForce RTX 4070 Ti Super Strix OC that scored an impressive 165.9 frames per second at 8000MT/s and 166.9 frames per second at 8400MT/s. Doom Eternal scored an insanely good 295.2 fps at 8000MT/s and 301.3 fps at 8400MT/s. Lastly God of War at 8000MT/s scored 173.2 and 175.4 at 8400MT/s. Modest improvements but again, a sum of all parts.
Final Thoughts?
If you’re looking for a Super Mario star for your system and add an element of real future proofing, it’s hard to look past the Kingston FURY Renegade DDR5 RGB Limited Edition Memory (KF580C36RLAK2-48). With the new Intel CPU’s coming out soon plus more and more motherboards supporting 8000MT/s and faster, this could help you get in the game first. Just be aware, that it does come at a cost with a RRP of $599AUD (August 2024).
