Kingston Technologies, a global leader in storage solutions have just launched two new USB products for users on-the-go with the Kingston DataTraveler Exodia Onyx and the Kingston DataTraveler 80 M.

Both units offers three storage sizes (64GB, 128GB, 256GB), however the Kingston DataTraveler 80 M is more suited for users who own a Type-C device (e.g. notebook or Android smartphone) and do not require an adapter.

Aesthetically, both USB storage options are different in terms of appearance, however each unit has a sliding cap to protect the USB connector.

Additionally each devices comes with a key ring loop that adds another layer of protection to prevent physical loss of the USB. Kingston also offer a generous 5-year warranty that gives you additional peace of mind.

Unboxing

Well packed and presented from Kingston, the first thing that you notice about both USB devices is their lightweight nature.

The Kingston DataTraveler Exodia Onyx is super lightweight at just 8 grams, whereas the DataTraveler 80 M is even lighter at only 6 grams.

Both USB sticks use the USB 3.2 Gen 1 interface for fast speeds with the 80 M boasting speeds of up to 200MB/s that of course is dependent on a number of factors such as a detected USB-C connection.

In terms of testing, we trialled both units on a Lenovo Yoga notebook and as expected, there is a difference between USB vs USB-C as you can see from the results below.

Final Thoughts?

Both the Kingston DataTraveler Exodia Onyx & Kingston DataTraveler 80 M are great USB-drives that are not only well designed but comes with Kingston’s generous 5-year warranty. Additionally, they are fast and a great to transfer between devices with the USB-C  ideal for both notebooks and smart devices.
