Introducing Gemini 2.0: Google’s most capable model yet

We wanted to share that today, Google introduced Gemini 2.0, the most capable model yet. Its release follows Gemini 1.0 and 1.5, which drove advances in multimodality and long context, and is built to be natively agentic.

You can learn more about it in the Keyword blog. Additional blogs and YouTube videos are linked below.

Highlights:

  • Gemini 2.0 is our most capable model yet: Gemini 2.0 Flash Experimental released today, as the first model in the Gemini 2.0 model family, and is available to developers in Google AI Studio and Vertex AI and as a chat-optimised version for Gemini desktop and mobile web users. We also launched Deep Research, a new feature with advanced reasoning, allowing it to act as a research assistant, available in Gemini Advanced today.

  • Developers can build more interactive applications with Gemini 2.0: We’re releasing a new Multimodal Live API to help developers build more interactive applications, with real-time audio and video streaming, and the ability to use multiple tools like Google Search and Maps for complex use cases.

  • We’re bringing Gemini 2.0 to AI Overviews: Gemini 2.0’s reasoning capabilities will help AI Overviews address more complex topics and questions, including advanced math equations, multimodal queries, and coding. We’ll release this update broadly next year, while continuing to bring AI Overviews to more countries. Testing began this week.

  • We’re applying Gemini 2.0 across our agentic research prototypes: These include Project Astra, our research prototype exploring future capabilities of a universal AI assistant; Project Mariner, exploring the future of human-agent interaction, starting with your browser; and Jules, an AI-powered code agent for developers. We’re also exploring applying agents to more domains like video games and robotics. As we develop these new technologies, we’re taking an exploratory and gradual approach to development.

  • Trillium, our sixth-generation TPU, powers Gemini 2.0 and these advances: It’s generally available to customers today.
