"Racing just got better..."

Racing fans can finally rest easy again for Codemasters have finally released the sequel to the extremely popular V8 Supercars and what better way to test this amazing game than on the XBox gaming console. One of the main things gamers will notice in this current incarnation are the improved game physics and brilliant graphics that easily makes this title one of the best racing games around.

Gamers are once again thrust into the role professional racing driver (provided you play the story mode version of the game) and unlike the first game, the player is the actual star of this title. Everything that made the first game popular have also returned in the sequel that include new love interests to some chilling racing rivalries. The storyline is progressed nicely through some beautifully rendered cutscenes that almost makes you feel like you are part of the exciting world of professional racing.

As this is a British designed game, the V8 Supercars aspect of the game is once again limited but there is enough content to make any Ford or Holden fan extremely happy. Apart from the popular V8 Supercar series, gamers can also engage in a variety of different racing formats that include the DTM from Germany to the powerful Formula Ford series.

The game is also based on the 2003 season of the V8 Supercars and include the official cars such as the BA Falcon and the VY Commodore to name a few of the real-world cars that grace this title. The game also contains over forty five real world tracks that include fan favourites such as Sandown Australia.

As mentioned earlier in the review, one of the most impressive features about this game is the improved graphics engine that quite simply looks spectacular on the XBox gaming system. When I first played the original game, I was a little harsh at the supposed "real-world" physics but obviously Codemasters listened to the public and all the bugs from the first incarnation have gone the way of the dodo.

V8 Supercars features one of the most realistic damage systems that not only just effects your tyres but also other aspects of your car such as the engine or gears. The artificial intelligence of the opponents has also received a huge face-lift and gone are the days of unrealistic driving because this is as realistic as you could possibly get without actually being in a V8 Supercar.

Graphically, V8 Supercars is an amazing game that features some extremely realistic cars, thanks to the high amount of polygons and detailed textures that almost makes you think you are watching a race on television. The developers have also done an amazing job at adding quite a bit of detail to the backgrounds such as logos, trees, spectators and even readable signs.  Check out the screenshots for a true representation of the details on the cars. When a car gets damaged, you actually see the damage on your car and the game contains some of the most realistic crashes, this side of Burnout 2.

The game also has all the traditional sounds of V8 Supercars from the powerful grunts of the Holdens and Fords to the sounds of tyres screeching on the road and the sounds of high speed crashes of cars going in excess of one hundred kilometres an hour. The game also features some professional voice acting that doesn't sound too forced or contrived and match that with a kickass soundtrack and you have one pumping game.

The XBox version of V8 Supercars also features XBox Live that allows you to engage in other players from around the world. However, I must add that if you don't have a stable broadband connection than your games may start suffering from the dreaded monster called lag. The online version of the game also supports up to 12 players simultaneously online at once, talk about an amazing effort.

In conclusion, V8 Supercars 2 is a very impressive game and if you loved the first incarnation of the title than I highly recommend that you purchase this game immediately, for it features new tracks, an improved game engine, stunning graphics and a realistic control system that will have gamers of all ages playing this title again and again. Check it out!
