The Martins is the story of a loser by the name of Robert Martin who goes berserk when he loses a newspaper competition for a holiday. Determined to prove he is someone to his family, in particular his son, Robert is determined to take revenge upon anyone he thinks has done wrong by him. To make matters worse, he plays the part of a two bit hood and starts waving a gun around at anyone who he thinks looks sideways at him. Robbing a man of his suit and a bird from a pet store, he leaves a trail of very upset people behind him. Finally the icing on the cake is when he steals the tickets from the true winners of the competition. There are many other noteworthy point that I could cover that would just ruin the story for you. Let's just say that there is one major surprise that I have not divulged that makes things very complicated indeed for him. The back of the slick tells us that this movie is comedy when in fact I'd be more prone to say it's a tragedy the way that everything spins out of control for him. The movie has been transferred in widescreen and utilises Dolby 5.1 however there is not a great need for the full surround set up. The acting from every single person in this movie is absolute excellent and it's great viewing from the start to the very finish. There is humour in this film however it's of a very black nature and some won't see the funny side of any of it. But with this type of movie that won't matter, as the strength of the storyline carries it through nicely, and the end of the movie is very nicely done. Worth a look, I really enjoyed it, though it would have been nice to have a few more extras on the disc. |
