One of the first things that you
will notice about this film is that it is an absolute feast for the eyes. The
colours and cinematography to put it mildly are striking and at time almost
overwhelm you.
The story is a complex one full of situations
that most of us in Australia would not have to face in our lifetime. It deals
with an arranged marriage that our heroine Aditi is being wed into. Whilst
still in love with her ex boyfriend, she wants the security of a married life,
however still sees her boyfriend in secret. When caught out, her groom to be
reacts in a totally unexpected way that will surprise you.
Something that I noticed about the film is
that although you do have your main characters, the film focuses on everyone
in it and there are really almost no "bit" players. Each person is an integral
part to the whole that is the movie. It absolutely makes for compellingly
enjoyable viewing as the families all get ready the wedding preparations and
relationships are examined.
The transfer of this DVD is brilliant with no
visible flaws that I could see. Audio is just as good with the surround only
being fully utilised when it was needed to make a point or to compliment the
music score for the film. The soundtrack is in English/Hindi and Punjabi and
is supported in 5.1 sound for all languages.
There are also a number of extras on the DVD
with a wonderful commentary from director Mira Nair to accompany the onscreen
action. It is interesting and informative and you will be listening raptly
from start to finish. The other features are interesting however this is the
cream of that particular pie.
I recommend this disc as a product that
screams quality from everything from story to cinematography and is highly
recommended!
