The Insider tells the tale of how a man is determined to tell the truth about the tobacco industry and to what lengths they will go to have him silenced.

Starring Al Pacino and Russell Crowe, this movie based on a true story deals with the characters Jeffrey Wygand (Crowe) and 60 Minutes producer Lowell Bergman (Pacino). Wygand is sacked from the tobacco company he works for when disagreeing with top level management about the manufacturing process of cigarettes. He has signed a non disclosure agreement with the company and so the two part ways.

Bergman has been working on a story for 60 Minutes dealing with another tobacco company and asks Wygand to assist him translating paperwork into something the lay person can understand when Wygands employers get wind of it and threaten him if he breaks the non disclosure agreement. Wygand never had any intention of doing so and is angered by the threats to his family's safety.

Whilst assisting with the translation of the report, Wygant cannot reveal information outside of directly what he is looking at with Bergman. This leads to further threats from the company and special court appearances to silence Wygant before he tells all he knows.

This DVD only has a production featurette which while well done, is pretty ordinary considering the bevy of features the Region 1 version was given.

The move over to DVD has been done very well and both video and audio are good. The quality of storyline and acting make this a movie that is most gripping. Recommended.
