DVD Reviews:  Hi-5: Five Alive

We’ve had this one in our home for some time as a VHS tape that has been played over and over again as a favourite. One thing that I have noticed is that the DVD certainly lives up to it’s name, Five Alive. My kids come to life when this is played with a number of very up tempo songs, dancing all over the place. 

Five Alive, is a wonderful DVD with some great tunes that even the adults will love. A personal favourite would be Boom Boom Beat for the simple fact that it is such an uptempo song that no matter how many times it is played, the kids  will respond as favourably as though the song had just been played for the first time. 

Another thing that is part of the winning formula of Hi-5 is the bright colours and the natural vibrant attitude of the entertainers.  There is never a moment when you would even consider that they are playing down to their young enraptured audience, and the delight that they inspire has to be seen to be believed. 

As far as the actual audio video side of the review goes, it’s easy for someone like me who  has seen this title on VHS umpteen times and quite frankly was very pleased with the transfer of the video. As always the quality of the audio sounds so crystal clear that it’s a delight to listen to. 

Quite possibly the only silly part of the whole disc is the song Wiggle Your Gluteus Maximus (your bottom). It’s a tad silly but the kids really don’t seem to care on iota one way or the other, as long as it has a beat they are all over it. 

Other than the standard song selection there is not a great deal to this disc in the way of extras, other than song selection, story selection and a karaoke feature. Might sound like a lot but then you remember that this is merely a means of accessing material that you have already viewed during the main feature. 

All things said and done, this feature is another strong disc from both Hi-5 and Roadshow Home Entertainment. Running for 47 minutes, it can almost be guaranteed that the kids will be asking for it to be played over and over and over and over……
