DVD Reviews:  Don't Try This at Home: The Steve-O Video

Don't Try this at Home: The Steve-O Video stars one of the most outrageous members of Jackass, the extremely idiotic yet sometimes entertaining Steve-O who makes people cry, cringe, laugh and most importantly shake their heads in disgust. This DVD features a compilation of anecdotes by Steve-O and friends that were basically too controversial to be shown on MTV's Jackass. The DVD also stars Johnny Knoxville, Chris Pontius, Wee-man, Ryan Dunn, Preston Lacey and Ryan Simonetti from full length skits and stunts to extremely small cameos. Some of the highlights of this DVD include Steve-O ice skating as a ballerina, Steve-O lighting his hair on fire, Steve-O using his anus as a dart board and once again Steve-O using his anus to help light firecrackers. Although being a fan of the original Jackass series, this DVD is a mixed bag that features some entertaining skits to some extremely disturbing moments such as Steve-O masturbating on his producers computer.

One of the extras on the DVD entitled "Career Ender" features Steve-O dressed as a human urinal who goes around to bars encouraging men to urinate on him. The Career Ender is basically a compilation of outrageous and quite disgusting segments such as Steve-O having sex with a Danish girl, then tying a loop in the condom to throw it on the floor... when his pet dog comes by and decides to gobble up the condom... fast forward to a few days later and the poor dog has defecated the condom out. Apart from the two main segments, the DVD also features a very unusual commentary by Steve-O that tries to put reason behind his madness. This DVD is strictly recommended to people who enjoyed the Jackass series because Don't Try This at Home: The Steve-O Video is guaranteed to offend, disturb and turn off just about everyone in the world.

The video quality of Don't Try This at Home: The Steve-O Video is presented in the standard 4.3:1 and the quality goes from average to abysmal because the majority of this DVD was filmed with handy cams.

As with the video quality, the audio quality of this DVD is only Dolby Digital 2.1 and although it's nothing to write home about, it is quite clear and audible with a variety of Jackass style music to help accommodate the anecdotes of Steve-O and crew.

The DVD includes three extras that include Steve-O's "Career Ender", commentary by Steve-O himself and the Making of Video that is basically Steve-O making an "ass" of himself.

I found Don't Try This at Home: The Steve-O video to be an extremely disturbing yet entertaining DVD that features people at their stupidest. Just a word of warning, this DVD is rated R18+ and there is a reason for this. This will NEVER be on television, so buyer beware!
