Recipe: Take one Jennifer Grey and one Patrick Swayze, mix in with some of the hottest dance moves seen on a movie screen in ages and what you have is the wonderful romantic tale called Dirty Dancing. Whilst not the most challenging of storylines, what endeared most of us to Dirty Dancing was the sheer passion with which both main characters played their parts in the movie. Jennifer Grey plays the part of Francis "Baby" Houseman who has gone with her parents to a resort where the inhouse entertainment headed up by Swayze do their best to entertain the guests night after night. Baby becomes infatuated with Johnny (Swayze) who isn't exactly taken by the rich girl, however he teaches her a few moves. When Johnny's regular partner cannot be there for Johnny's after hours gigs where he Dirty Dances, he reluctantly agrees to teach Baby a few moves and over the course of the instructions finds himself drawn to her. The rest of the movie is history which you should know. Dirty Dancing is a great DVD packed with features, however the video does hit some low points with degrees of softness present throughout in parts of the movie, obscuring details in some circumstances. This is more something that won't detract from the average person's enjoyment of the movie but just a little niggly thing that I noticed. Audio truly shines on this disc and is clear and pleasant to listen to throughout, treated as it was to both a Dolby Digital or DTS transfer. The music is inspired, not only the dance tunes, but the score that is running through the movie itself. The extras are plentiful and are an absolute pleasure to watch. It certainly appears with this release that they took the time to create something truly special for the fans of this movie who will certainly get a kick out of this DVD. The sheer amount of extras including interviews, directors commentaries and looks behind the scenes are amazing. Recommended! Dirty Dancing Features | - Director's Commentary
