This show would have to be one of the very few disappointing shows that I have
seen from ABC. Having kids who watch the shows on ABC Kids, the show seems
designed to get the couch potatoes off their bums and do a bit of a jig. It
all seems a bit contrived as something the ABC can point to as their 'health'
segment.
Where does it go wrong? Where do we begin. For starters it utterly alienates
the younger audiences who share that timeslot by trying to show a number of
dance moves that they cannot remember in too short a time. Each episode goes
for about five minutes and is hosted by Scott and Amy.
Amy
can sing, Scott cannot. Amy is friendly in a Hi-5 kind of way, Scott is wooden
and sort of raps in a forced kind of manner. `
This show is done a such a shoestring budget that you better check for your
own laces. It's done anywhere that can be filmed for free, including the beach
and park. It's also extensively shot at someone's house, to put it simply, you
or I could have done this video with substantially better results.
I'm
sorry kids, whilst well intentioned, this disc simply doesn't do the job that
it's meant to do. The sequences are too short for the kids to get into with
the time given to them and then incorporated into a song and dance that will
have kids staring blankly at the screen.
Last but not
least, do not trust a title that replaces an S with a Z! If they cannot spell,
what are they going to teach you?
Pretty ordinary stuff here,
the sad thing is that some of the camera angles are so dodgy and contrived
that your kids simply won't know what's going on. Grab your digital video
camera and get into the backyard! Maybe you can start a kids show for the ABC!
Clear as a bell. No problems
here. A gripe however is simply that when the Active kids are singing outside,
Amy sounds like there are three of her singing at the same time.
Now
there is one good extra here. There are a number of recipes here that are
truly nutritious and so tasty that the kids will love.
The
rest you will be safe to miss. |
