Summary: Hound the Detective is a well written and illustrated book that successfully draws you in thanks to its interactive nature!

4.8

Interactive fun!

Meet Hound, a brilliant detective who ALWAYS solves his case. But this latest trail of clues has him perplexed – could it be that he’s missed something important?

Written by Kimberly Andrews (Puffin the Architect), she introduces us to her newest star, Hound the Detective, a Sherlock Holmes type Basset Hound who solves all sorts of mysteries such as missing jewels and stolen cars and he always solves the case. Needless to say, he has the nose to solve crime!

However unlike other children’s books, the author does a great job at drawing the reader into the story as together they must look for the clues on the page to solve his latest mystery. As we follow Hound, he arrives at the Manor House where he follows a variety of clues that takes him to a plethora of different places such as the Village Fair to a mysterious cabin in the woods.

As the hound uses his detective skills to follow the clues and without spoiling the story, the ending is not what you would expect which is a clever twist by writer Kimberly Andrews. Nonetheless, Hound still solves the case and he is one happier dog for it!! Not only is the book well written but the interactive nature of finding the clues on the page definitely draws you in and adding to the story is the beautiful illustrations by Richard Clark who takes this story to a whole new level.

Recommended!
