Just released by Cooler Master, the RECON GAMING MOUSE is
a true gaming mouse that supports a high precision optical
sensor which allows the user to switch between four DPI settings
on the fly. Whether you want a mild DPI setting of 800 or
something more accurate at 4000 DPI, this mouse not only has the
performance in all facets of computer use but more importantly,
it feels good to use thanks to the rubberised grip. All in all,
this makes it perfect for gaming.
This means that when the action heats up, you can ensure full
control of the mouse when the bullets are flying or the dragon
awakens. Also, from a gamers perspective, the mouse looks very
impressive, especially with glowing CM STORM logo and the
ability to change the LED's on the mouse itself. Another
excellent selling point is that the mouse boasts an ambidextrous
form which means both right and left handers can use this
product.

The setup of the Recon Gaming Mouse was a breeze and it simply
connected to our PC via the USB cable. Windows 7 automatically
detected the mouse, however if you want to get the full use out
of the mouse (e.g. for gaming), you do need to install the
software which allows the user to create their own profiles and
macros for the various games that they play. The only
unfortunate aspect of the software is that you need to download
it from Cooler Master at
http://www.cmstorm.com/en/products/peripherals/Recon/ which
is about a 14MB download.
This software also controls the 3 individual multi-colour LED
zones as you can change the colours and even the brightness of
each of these zones. It definitely takes night gaming to new
heights. Once installed, the mouse felt just right. I've used
more mice over my many years of computing than I can count and
the Recon Gaming Mouse just felt right.
Whether I was navigating Windows 7, surfing the net, using
Photoshop or just general computer use, there was no fatigue
whatsoever. For surfing the net, especially when used with
Internet Explorer, the side buttons are perfect. There are two
buttons on each sides of the mouse which allow you to go
backward and forward on web pages.
On the top, there are two
buttons, an "A" (left) and a "B" (right) plus a "C" which is the
scroll wheel in the centre. Finally just below the scroll wheel
you have the two DPI buttons for adjusting the sensitivity of
the mouse. It's quite a well designed mouse and the super grip
of the mouse body is ideal for gaming. The cable length is
around 1.8 metres which is the perfect length for gamers.
In terms of gaming, we tested the Recon Gaming Mouse with
Battlefield 3, Sleeping Dogs, The Witcher Enhanced Edition,
Warcraft 3 and Diablo III. The Recon performed exceptionally
well on all games. The mouse contains integrated memory for 5
profiles and 36 macros. The macros are great for games like
Battlefield 3 and Warcraft where you need quick access to
weapons or spells. Another great feature is the lift-oft
distance of the mouse which unlike traditional mice, you don't
have to keep moving the mouse or adjusting it physically.
At the end of the day, the CM
Storm Recon is a very affordable mouse that has been built of
gamers. With the highest grade Japanese Omron Micro Switches,
you can expect the ultimate quality, thanks to the AVAGO 3090
sensor. So if you need a new mouse, what are you waiting for?
