ENERGY MONITORING ADDED TO WEMO RANGE WITH LAUNCH OF INSIGHT SWITCH

Tuggerah, July 29, 2015 WeMo, the home automation ecosystem created by Belkin International, has today announced the Australian availability of the WeMo Insight Switch, the latest addition to its smart home platform which enables users to control and manage the energy usage and costs of home electronics.

Accessed virtually anywhere via the WeMo app, on any iOS or Android device, the Insight Switch is an easy-to-use Wi-Fi enabled compact plug that takes home automation that one step further. When the device is switched on, users can receive notifications about the device’s usage and energy consumption in order to better control and manage home electronics.

In a recent report on Australian smart home automation, to which Belkin contributed, it was forecast that the segment would grow to be worth A$917 million annually by 2017*. Additional global data from Belkin reveals that when combining the Home Automation, Networking and Energy Management categories in which WeMo operates, the potential consumer market could be worth up to US$51 billion globally over this same time.

An award winner at the recent 2015 International Design Excellence Awards (IDEA), the WeMo Insight Switch plugs directly into a power point, allowing users to place any device on a schedule, create notifications for device usage, as well as manage the time, energy consumption and cost of specific devices.

As with the entire WeMo ecosystem, the Insight Switch works with IFTTT, an online service that creates triggers using different Internet-based services such as email, weather and social media, whilst also working in unison with the range of WeMo products.

“Evolving from the original WeMo Switch, the Insight Switch is an intelligent but easy to use solution for consumers to manage and better understand the energy usage of their electronic devices. It makes the smart home smarter,” said Andrea Bruno, Senior Product Marketing Manager International for WeMo. “From observing whether a television has been on too long to being alerted when a laundry cycle has finished, users can observe and manage home electronics for better management and control of their home.”
