Whore is the tale of the world's
oldest professional that is seen through the eyes of the sensual
yet equally beautiful Denis Richards, a graduate student that is
coaxed into prostitution by her neighbour who happens to be
played by the equally sensual and more mature Daryl Hannah.
Unlike traditional stories, this film is interwoven with
interviews from real working prostitutes from the traditional
street walker to the high class call girl who use their body as
not only a tool but also a tool for successful marketing.
Unfortunately the main element of this story is lost through the
real-world interviews that leaves the viewer craving for more as
it gives us in-depth look into the world of prostitution through
the eyes of European working girls. Although some of the girls
experiences highs in their profession, many of these working
girls are victims of society that some may argue are being
abused by the males of the world, whereas some see their work as
empowerment.
Comedic, thought provoking and disgusting, this movie also uses
European porn stars to give this film a sleazy, elegant and
almost pornography view of the world's oldest profession.
Definitely not a movie for the mild or meek of society.
Presented in an aspect ratio of 16:9 widescreen with Dolby
Digital 5.1, this movie is exceptionally good quality and match
that with a variety of "stock" special features and you have a
rather average DVD.
In conclusion, Whore is nothing more than an attempt at cheap
voyeurism that fails abysmally and would have been better as a
documentary that lacks substance and grace. For those that are
interested in the behind the scenes of prostitution, you may
want to check this out, else I suggest you look elsewhere.
