Some great talent together, making a not so great film.
Booby (Joaquin Phoenix) is the black sheep of his family; Both his
brother (Mark Wahlberg) and father(Robert Duvall), are high profile
officers, while he is the manager of a night club with loose
connections to the Russian mafia. Eventually Bobby turns informant,
in an attempt to impress his brother and father.
While this film has solid direction and a great cast, its
development and pace let it down; Bobby's journey seems shallow as
the character doesn't develop at the same rate as the plot. The 3
leads seem to be walking through their roles, which does dull the
film as there is so much expectation with these actors. However
there is enough intrigue to carry the film through to its
conclusion.
