Warriors: Heroes and Villains
Warriors: Heroes and Villains
is a
relatively big budget documentary drama which uses CGI and actors to
recreate a variety of key historic moments for some of histories most
powerful warriors. These warriors include Hernan Cortes, Richard the
Lionheart, Napoleon, Spartacus, Attila the Hun and Tokugawa Ieyasu. Each
of these warriors are from a different era in time and this documentary
faithfully recreates their world and goes into great detail about their
passions and motivations.
Before mankind created technology that could
shape the world, these six individuals shaped the world with their own
ideologies and armies and whether it was for God, glory or power, this
documentary explains all their motivations, some led by religion, others
by madness.
As
mentioned, the series is split into six
chapters that include Spartacus, Attila, The Shogun, Richard the Lionheart, Hernan Cortes and Napoleon. Although there is some artistic
interpretation taken into account during some of the episodes such as
Spartacus, the majority of episodes are quite insightful such as The
Shogun which follows Tokugawa Ieyasu's struggle to become the unified
ruler of Japan.
Battles play a huge part in this series and like the
episode called “The Shogun”, it features a truly momentous battle that
makes great use of the CGI and actors to portray some of these deadly
skirmishes. Another favourite of mine is the episode revolving around
Richard the Lionheart that pits this Anglo-Saxon warrior against the
“godless” Saladin in an attempt to bring Christianity to these countries
under the banner of Third Crusade.
Generally, most of the episodes are well made but
at times, the acting is a little forced and contrived but overall,
especially with the set and CGI re-enactments, it is done extremely well
that helps you become captured by these powerful men of history and
legend. Recommended!
