Vanquisher
Hot
chicks, swords, Bangkok and a bomb threat. These are the elements of the
movie Vanquisher, being released under the Eastern Eye imprint. This
movie looked to be the goods but frankly by the end of it, I sort of
felt like I had been fed a bit of bull by the cover and the tagline
"Vengeance Never Looked so Good."
Firstly, this is not a tale of vengeance but of our hero being chased
and hunted. There are a lot of holes in the plot that simply leave you
feeling lost, but the worst part is that you just know it could have
been done better. Even the fight scenes with gorgeous girls and ninjas
were not done as well as they could have been with poor lighting and
some crummy choreography.
The story follows (somewhat) the tale of Genja who after completing a
mission in Thailand is hunted by operatives who have been given the job
of taking care of her and any loose threads related to her covert
operation. What follows is a poorly construed game of cat and mouse that
eventuates in her emergence to face enemies and save Bangkok from a bomb
threat that could destroy the city.
This is a movie that sadly doesn't hold together that well in terms of
execution or plot. The tale does deliver in terms of the Thai title for
the film, loosely translated as Beautiful Samurai, lives up to it's
promise with some beautiful women as it's main characters but honestly
that is about it.
I feel really bad doing this considering my love of the Eastern Eye
imprint, but this is the first time I am giving a total thumbs down and
saying don't bother.
