Tightrope

Feature: Clint Eastwood is a cop, on the edge! Trying to solve the mystery of a serial killer, who strangles his victims the same way, although each victim seems to keep getting closer to his home.

Wow, I don’t remember a time when I’ve been so completely bored with a movie. Honestly, from start to finish this movie oozes with poor acting, reading of a poor script, and shot in a way that makes me feel like becoming a cinematographer.

I tried, lord how I tried to give it a chance, but it’s all just so predictable. I can’t see how this movie would have even seemed good at the time. Unless that is they were attempting to create a new quasi genre, cop-sploytation, obviously in the vain of black-sploytation movies. Everything is over the top, and hardly believable, that and it all drags on for way too long. It was a real struggle to keep watching this. Even the soundtrack was dodgy.

It can almost be compared to 8MM (with Nicholas Cage), in the fact that there’s a seedy underworld of sex and perversion that they are trying to show, but unlike 8MM, it’s all gratuitous, and although 8MM was criticized for being to real, this just has no feeling of repulsion (except for Clint Eastwood having sex that is), and for that matter, possibly no feeling at all. Thank god Clint Eastwood has gotten better at making movies since this.

Video: A pretty poor showing here, the blacks more like grey, the colors are dull, the shadows lack any sort of detail whatsoever, and there are more film artifacts in this movie to point a stick at. However, there is minimal edge enhancement, and the sharpness is pretty good for a movie of this age, so it’s not a complete loss.

Audio: For a movie of this age the sound isn’t half bad. You get some use of surrounds and sub, not a lot, but then again it wouldn’t have been recorded like that in the first place. Other than that, the voices are nice and clear, and everything else seems to have a nice clarity to it also.

Extras: Well, this disc just keeps disappointing now don’t it? A theatrical trailer, barely most interesting than the movie itself and a cast and crew section, which I mistakenly believed to be biographies. Nope, this just has a single page of writing with the cast and crew in it.
