The Superhero Squad Show
Well what can I say about this one? I love the Marvel
Universe and was keen to see the DVD based on the cute figures by the
same name. This disc tells the story of the Infinity Gauntlet, which was
actually a story that I read back in the day in the regular comics.
I sat the kids down with me and we watched this movie
together. For two reasons:
- 1 -
It's nice to watch stuff together
- 2 - I knew that this DVD was aimed at
kids, and with children aged 7-10 with me, I knew I was going to get
honest feedback
Sadly for the most part this was a fairly mediocre
experience. Glaring flaws in continuity abounded, and I knew that for at
least me, it was a let down. However it was the reaction of the kids
that threw me the most as I didn't expect the criticisms that came from
the smaller members of the house.
Complaints ranged from inaccuracies such as when Dr
Doom breaks free from his cell there is a hole in the wall. Flashing
back there shortly afterward, there is no hole. Holes in many items
magically disappear without explanation and it got to the point that
even the youngest in the family was pointing them out and asking why
things were the way they were.
It's a bit of a juggling match really as the
animation style is really cute and the kids have the toys from the
series. The cartoon is totally loyal to the look of the toys, however I
would imagine that this series is only really going to entertain even
the very young as even the seven year old has not asked to watch the DVD
since which has utterly amazed me.
If you have younger people in the house, then it
might be worth getting. It's certainly not expensive at $19.95 but
personally I would strongly suggest that most of you will be best served
by hiring at the local video shop.
