The Plague Dogs
This
wonderful movie is a must see for almost everyone. It tells the tale of
two dogs who escape from a laboratory and are pursued when it’s believed
that the dogs are carrying the bubonic plague. Brilliantly animated with
an engrossing storyline, The Plague Dogs is a tale that will touch the
hearts of all that watch it with its very human piece of storytelling.
The
video on this release is a delight to watch and the fact that it’s the
extended release of the DVD makes it even more so. The animation style
is wonderful to watch and it is obvious that a lot of work was put into
it.
Something for you to realise is that this movie is emotionally wrenching
to watch so be prepared for some pretty full on viewing if you take the
plunge and watch. I found myself in tears on more than one occasion at
the plight of the animals featured, especially when you started
associating with them the further one got into the movie.
Most
of the movie is pretty hard hitting and takes the moral high ground with
respect to cruelty to animals and doesn’t let up. There is not a human
character in the film to identify with and the things that are done to
the animals makes you quite sad to realise that this really goes on.
I’d
have to say that this is a must watch film, just watch out for the
younger audiences who will no doubt be traumatised by this flick and
then ask you the hard questions about human cruelty to animals. By
younger audiences, I would think anyone over 11 would have no problems
with the movie but they would still find it distressing.
This
is the extended version of the film and personally I don’t see the value
in putting both on here. There is also a trailer featured as an extra.
