Whether historically accurate or not, The Other Boleyn Girl makes
for a gripping drama movie that is set during the turbulent time of
Henry the VII who is played by the delightful Eric Bana which
revovles around two warring sisters who are masterfully played by
Natalie Porter as Anne Boleyn and Scarlett Johansson as Mary Boleyn
with a healthy dose of courtly intrigue.
Directed by Justin Chadwick, the films follows the novel by Philippa
Gregory which has been rewritten for the film by Peter Morgan and
contains some great period costumes and scenery.
Although Bana is quite impressive as Henry the VII, the stars of the
movie are Portman and Johansson that almost make you believe the
rivalry these two sisters endured. The unfortunate aspect of The
Other Boleyn Girl is the plot which seems a little fragmented at the
best of times and does impede with the powerful drama that was
allegedly behind the original story.
The video quality of the title is a little dark and is quite earthy
at times but suits the genre quite well and match that with some
impressive surround sound moments and The Other Boleyn Girl is a
decent film in relation to video and audio quality.
In
conclusion, The Other Boleyn Girl suffers from a slightly disjointed
plot, however does have some great moments between Bana, Portman and
Johansson that is definitely one for those who enjoy period dramas.
Quite the interesting period drama!
