The Mentalist
Aussie hunk and Emmy winner Simon
Baker once again dons his suit to play California Bureau of
Investigation consultant Patrick Jane. For those who missed the original
season, Jane is a former "psychic" who uses his powers to solve the
unsolvable crimes that the authorities are so desperately trying to
resolve. Unbeknown to most, Jane is actually a con man but knows how to
read people and the scene for clues.
Joining forces with Senior Agent Teresa
Lisbon (Robin Tunney) after the brutal murder of his family, Jane is
actually using the CBI to help bring him closer to the murderer of his
wife and child. The best part of season 2 is that Jane is a much more
likable character as opposed to the sometimes stuck up a-hole from
season one. The stories are also more self contained and once again
generally involve some crime that needs solving but it's all part of the
fun.
The relationship between Patrick and Lisbon
is also an interesting dynamic, although our protagonist clearly has
eyes set on the target. Romance also blossom in season 2 with regulars
Van Pelt and Rigsby who finally give into their love but just like most
work relationships, they "try" to keep this under wraps. It's cute to
watch it unfold.
However in order to truly enjoy this
series, you do need the knowledge of season one, so before you embark on
your season two journey, make sure you have seen the original. However
for those who have seen the TV series and want to catch more Baker, than
definitely check out this series again because there are so many more
clues that I missed the first time which I've now spotted and certain
plots seem more fuller.
