A
well written good at Share house living of the mature set. This is
the fifth season of seven which ran from 1985 to 1992 and won
eleven Emmys and four Golden Globes for its sharp writing and great
comedic acting from it lead actresses.
The Golden Girls' premise is simple 3 best friends Rose (Betty
White), Blanche, (Rue McClanahan) Dorothy (Bea Arthur), and her
mother Sophia (Estelle Getty), move into a house together in Miami.
On the surface it appears to be a nice sitcom about four single 50+
women but the strange array of conversations and topical subject
matter prove otherwise.
The series works as each character is unique and has a role in the
group dynamic: Rose is ditsy country girl, Blanche is a promiscuous
southern belle, Dorothy is an intelligent school teacher, and while
her mother Sophia is the wisest, she is also the craziest of the
group. The four dynamic characters provide balance to the
storylines; No one single character dominates the storyline s, which
also shows great ensemble work from the four lead actresses.
The audio com entry provides interesting anecdotes from Betty White,
Rue McClanahan and Bea Arthur each providing a track each on
selected episodes.
This Series is highly rewarding in terms its writing (both comic and
dramatic) and acting. Well worth the effort for comedy fans.
