The French Kissers
The French Kissers
tells the story of Hervé (Vincent Lacoste), a socially awkward,
teenage boy, who along with his best friend Camel (Anthony Sonigo), who
are both obsessed with sex, try their very best to get girls, which
always ends badly for them. The guys keep trying their best until one
day, one of the more popular girls in school; Aurore (Alice Trémolières)
takes an interest in Hervé and an awkward relationship ensues.
The
French Kissers is a gem of a comedy. Not 100% memorable, but like
the quote on the DVD cover; “A comedy destined for cult status”, which
fits the bill perfectly. It’s like any American teen comedy we’ve seen
before, but this stands higher than those, for having more character and
being so much more real. Vincent Lacoste gives a perfect performance as
Hervé. Completely believable as an awkward teen, who’s just trying to
get himself a girl. Whether he’s practicing kissing on the bathroom
mirror and being caught by his mother or as boy who when he finally does
get a girl, he has absolutely no idea what to do. Another great
highlight is Anthony Sonigo as the very mulleted Camel, who’s the best
friend with the limitless knowledge in the ways of women.
It
really is a standout that is carried by some solid, believable acting
from the young cast. Sure it has a plot we’ve all seen before and an
ending that we see coming, but it still comes out on top, with some
witty dialogue and one of the best pickup lines from a film, which comes
from a crooning, blind student in the school cafeteria. As I mentioned
above, the film comes away feeling so very real. The students aren’t
young model types, they’re just average looking, normal kids, who dress
like normal kids and have acne and normal features, which adds a very
solid layer of believability to the film and gives it more weight. The
characters and situations are totally relatable and try watching the
film without seeing something in it that you’ve lived through or
something similar that happened to you in your younger days.
Special features on this release are just trailers, including the
original French teasers, the original French trailer, the original
Australian trailer and another trailer showing advertising more films
from Palace Films.
The
French Kissers is a fun little film, with so excellent, laugh out
loud humour, a great young cast and creative team behind who turn out a
very charming film that really is destined to go down as a cult classic.
