With the latest Indiana Jones movie about to
released this midyear "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal
Skull", Lucasfilm have finally released "The Adventures of Young
Indiana Jones Volume 1" on DVD which features the young Indiana
Jones in a variety of adventures from boy to teenager.
Some of the
adventures are quite "blockbuster" in proportion, whereas other
episodes are a little lacklustre as our young archaeologist to be
encounters a variety of famous people of the time.
The first part of the series revolves
around 10-year old Indiana as he travels around the world with his
father Professor Henry Jones, his mother Anna and English tutor Miss
Seymour. Much of the earlier episodes are quite light hearted and
Indiana bumps into Howard Carter and Sigmund Freud which assist in
fuelling his passion for archaeology.
The best part of this volume
are the last two episodes which feature a teenage Indiana (Sean
Patrick Flanery, Stargate SG-1) who enrols to fight in World War I
which is where the series begins to shine. Unfortunately you need to
wait until volume 2 and 3 to experience more Sean Patrick Flanery.
The Adventures of Young Indiana Jones
Volume 1 is an extremely professional endeavour by George Lucas with
most episodes filmed on location and in some aspects is almost like
a 20th century history lesson, however with Indiana Jones added for
spice.
The video and audio quality of the
discs are phenomenal, even though it was made for television.
However, what
really sets this volume apart from most series on the market at the
moment are the amazing special features.... and I truly mean amazing.
Featuring almost everything you wanted to know about Indiana Jones
and the history of the early 20th century.
A brilliant box set from start to
finish!
