Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles Season 2
Although I was initially disappointed with
Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles when it first aired, the first
season managed to
find its feet halfway through the series and from there, I was hooked
and obviously so were others as the network picked up another season.
As
with the latest Star Trek movie, this was more of a remoulding of the
Terminator story because it didn't really sit well with the third story
but nevertheless, this current version is set after Terminator 2:
Judgement Day. Although I was wrapped that Fox signed the stars of the
series for a second season I was also saddened by the news that season 2
would be the final season. Thankfully it's here and you can watch it in
its entirety without any network breaks or interruptions.
Season two picks up from the "cliffhanger" ending of the
previous series and
once again reunites Lena Headey (Sarah Connor), Thomas Dekker (John
Connor), Summer Glau (Cameron, a Terminator) and Brian Austin Green
(Derek Reese). Although some familiar faces return in season two such as
FBI agent James Ellison, there's also some new faces such as Riley who
plays John's love interest and actually makes his character even more
relatable.
As opposed to season one which was a huge chase, that is the Connors
always fleeing from Skynet and the Terminators, season two changes tact
as they have decided to take the fight to Skynet instead by attempting
to stop its creation. The quality of the stories have also increased in
this current season plus some better effects which is always a bonus.
Add in a new villain or villainous and there are several new twists and
turns in this season. Whether it's John and his new girlfriend sneaking
off to Mexico or Cameron being reactivated again to terminate John, it's
quite a thrilling ride from start to finish. Although the Cameron versus
Rosie battle is easily worth the admission price alone.
Needless to say, after 15 episodes of Terminator: The Sarah Connor
Chronicles Season 2, I did not find any of the episodes dull or
uninteresting and the action, drama and even romance goes up another
notch. Another great aspect of this series is that all the characters
are quite interesting, whether it's the sexy and stoic Cameron played by
the talented Summer Glau or John Connor (Thomas Dekker) who is haunted
by him killing a man in self defence, the stories, their history and how
they interact with each other is perfect.
The quality, especially for a TV series is very impressive on DVD and
having seen the Blu-ray version as well, Warner have done a wonderful
job of collecting the episodes into this DVD collection. With that said, the video quality features sharp images, vibrant colours and deep levels
of black.
Add in high definition sound and this is almost a movie-esq
presentation and when the battle heats up, especially through our
surround sound system, it really assists in drawing you into this
series. The Blu-ray version also contains a plethora of special features
from behind the scenes, documentaries and even a great featurette about
the choreography of the fight scenes in the series, more specifically
that of Summer Glau.
At the end of the day, this is a well made series that may interfere
with the original movies, however if you can put this behind you as many
people did with the new Star Trek movie than Terminator: The Sarah
Connor Chronicles Season 2 is great science fiction series that is
extremely well acted and is quite professional. The first series may
have had more bad moments than good but the same thing cannot be said
about Season 2. However, the biggest problem with this series is that we
may never see a conclusion to it.
