Step up 2 the Streets is "sequel" to the
original musical drama entitled “Step Up” that revolves around Andie
(Briana Evigan), a girl with a conflicted history who is also a
member of the 410, a gang of dancers that are involved in
a variety of musical pranks and dance concerts.
When Andie is caught by her step mother
being involved with the 410, she is forced to attend a new school
and when she realises that her
future is in her own hands, she decides to sign up with a dance
class that creates conflict with her gang and she is eventually
ostracized.
Forming a strong bond with Chase (Robert Hoffman), a member of the
dance class, Andie forms her own dance group as they attempt to win
one a prestigious street dance competition, only to encounter obstacle
after obstacles.
Step up 2 the Streets uses quite a variety of
social issues from race to class that work well with the sometimes
clichéd storyline and at the end of the day, the movie is quite a
visual experience as some of the dance routines are quite
awe-inspiring.
Directed by John M. Chu, Step up 2 the Streets may
not be the most memorable movie of the year, however for the
aficionados of dance movies, the film contains enough dance, drama
and conflict to keep you entertained from start to finish.
