Only one word can describe this compilation... wow! This is the most definitive Star Trek DVD to date that features the original season which has been meticulously remastered from the original footage and almost makes the series appear as it was filmed yesterday.

Not only has the footage been restored to feature vibrant colours and sharper picture but even some of the video faults have been removed. It should also be noted that some of the special effects have also been replaced with 21st century graphics. Special effects such as the galaxy view from the bridge, the Enterprise ship itself, space battles and even some of the backdrops have been recreated to give the series a uniquely different experience. The original monologue by William Shatner is still there, however the original Star Trek theme has been re-sung which gave this fan goose bumps while listening to the quality of the presentation.

Besides the amazing boxed set that comes with the collection, the menu system has been beautifully created to almost give you a feel that you are aboard the Starship Enterprise with its interactivity.

Although a HD DVD and DVD version is available, no Blu-Ray version is available for this compilation which is a shame but fortunately owners of Blu-Ray can still experience similar quality with the DVD version. Although this review is for the DVD version, the quality is outstanding and one can only imagine how impressive the HD DVD version will be with its exceptional picture quality and amazing audio tracks.

Featuring classic episodes and some great special features with a plethora of interviews and documentaries, this DVD is a must have for the Star Trek perfectionist and really gives you a true insight into the making of this amazing television phenomena. 

In conclusion, this current incarnation of Star Trek the Original Series is an amazing collection that we could happily recommend to those lovers of Star Trek or for those that are heavily into science fiction.
