Riese Kingdom Falling
This
great series follows the adventures of Riese and her companion wolf
Fenrir as they make their way through the destroyed land of Eleysia
hunted by the terrifying group only known as The Sect. Upon first
inspection the show has a lot of similarities to Sanctuary in the way
that it looks and also the way it sounds with narrative duties being
undertaken by Amanda Tapping.
This is a gorgeous looking show with set pieces to die for and also a
great storyline to keep you hooked. It has been shot with the Red One,
an amazing super high resolution camera that blows anything currently on
the market out of the water. In fact the res is so high on this
production that modern TVs in your home cant display this show at full
resolution.
The relationship between Princess Riese and Fenrir is awesome and the
way that they have placed an animal as a central character has been
exceedingly well done. Dialogue written for Riese as she addresses the
wolf is witty and touching and you can see the affection that they have
for each other in the series. This has been carried out in a way that I
have never seen achieved in a television show, moreso with what does
appear to be a non CG animal.
It
is interesting how the story follows the fall of a civilisation as the
things that the people take for granted slowly get taken away and all
falls into a more primitive state when superstition and false beliefs
take a hold of the local populace. Myths and mythology surface and get
aggressively enforced, hence the existence of The Sect. The way that
Riese and Fenrir both escape and deal with the omnipresent threat of
assassination by a pretender to the throne sends you deeper into both
the characters and the story itself.
This is a beautifully intricate tale filled with great viewing and
something I’d highly recommend for fans of high quality Sci-Fi.
