Phone Booth
Your
life is on the line.
What do you do when you hear a ringing public phone? You know it's a
wrong number, but instinct forces you to pick it up. Set entirely within
and around the confines of a New York City phone booth, Joel
Schumacher's Phone Booth follows a slick media consultant (Farrell) who
is trapped after being told by a caller – a serial killer with a sniper
rifle – that he'll be shot dead if he hangs up.
This
interesting thriller is well played out on the streets of New York when
a serial killer holds a man hostage by threatening to kill people around
him with a sniper rifle. Although many parts of the tale are clichéd,
Farrell does a brilliant job at playing a man with secrets that is
ultimately the hero of this tale.
Great
acting by Colin Farrell, Kiefer Sutherland and an exceptional Forest
Whitaker who are brought together by director Joel Schumacher.
Schumacher does a wonderful job at using the scenery of New York but one
does wonder if this movie would have also made a great stage play.
Both
the video and audio are of exceptional quality that is presented in 16:9
widescreen for that true movie experience with Dolby Digital 5.1.
Unfortunately the extras on this disc are rather limiting with audio
commentary by Joel Schumacher and a featurette of the making of phone
booth. A great popcorn movie!
