Peep Show is the sleeper hit that has been hidden away on ABC 2
which features two room mates that are totally opposite in almost
every way. Starring David Mitchell as Mark and Robert Webb as Jez,
these two dysfunctional males revolve around sex and although it
comes easily to Jez, Mark has an uphill battle in scoring with the
opposite sex.
The series is cleverly directed from the point of view of the
characters and the viewer will see quite a few camera angles from
their point of view such as looking at other people, staring and
even snogging. Although both characters are totally different, Jez
believes that he is a DJ with his atrocious lyrics and lifestyle
where he never wants to work, while Mark is the classic computer
nerd who lusts after another office worker but almost blows it on
every occasion with a bad comment.
You also get to hear what both characters are thinking as you watch
the series. For instance, they may say something totally different
to what they really want to say which is what makes this series so
entertaining. It should also be warned that the series is quite
lewd, provocative and sometimes down right disgusting which will
leave you in hysterics and shock, such as the night when Jez has one
too many drinks and tries to remember the bad thing he done. Scarred
in my brain forever and a day! There are also some entertaining
special features that will bring a few laughs.
Peep Show is probably one of the most innovative and fresh series to
date and I commend the ABC in screening this series on free to air
television. If you are easily offended, then I do not recommend this
series, however if you enjoyed series such as the original BBC
Office or the quirky Robinsons, then I suggest you check out Peep
Show, you will be pleasantly surprised, sickened and wanting more.
Champaign comedy at its best!
