This modern sci-fi thriller stars Nicholas Cage as Chris Johnson, a
Las Vegas magician who can predict two minutes into the future which
also allows him to change the future.
Based on the short story by
"The Golden Man" by Philip K. Dick, director Lee Tamahori does a brilliant
job at recreating this short story with some great performances by
Nicholas
Cage, Julianne Moore and Jessica Biel.
Although the story starts as
a bad 1990's action movie, the characters and story is actually
quite clever as Johnson is hunted by the FBI to prevent a nuclear
disaster on the borders of the United States.
Unfortunately for Johnson, just when he thinks
he has discovered his soul mate, the terrorists who to detonate the
bomb also know of this stage magicians powers and seek his death as
he is the only one who can stop them.
Best described as a
"what if" movie, Johnson uses his powers to change history in this
deadly game of cat and mouse. My one biggest grip with the movie is
the ending that will leave some viewers considerably annoyed.
There's also a few special features such as a cute excerpt with
Jessica Biel on what she would do with the powers of Johnson in real
life. An enjoyable movie but nothing too memorable.
