My
Blueberry Nights is directed by Wong Kar-Wai with an international
cast that include Norah Jones, Jude Law and Natalie Portman which
follows the recent breakup of Elizabeth (Norah Jones) who is
struggling to cope with the loss.
As lost souls are sometimes
considered magnets, she eventually befriends a cafe owner in New
York called Jeremy (Jude Law) who also has a story of loss and both
spend late nights talking and eating blueberry pies.
Elizabeth
however craves more and begins her own personal soul searching as she makes
her way across the country, waitressing to earn an income. Each of
the towns that she visits, she becomes entwined with other "lost
individuals" that include an alcoholic police officer (David Strathairn) and his
estranged wife (Rachel Weisz) that eventually leads her to the
addicted gambler who is played the talented and gorgeous Natalie
Portman.
Each of the actors within My Blueberry Nights gives their
own interpretation of the characters they play and the sadness that
shimmers around them and in turn creates a gripping tale that at times is
quite depressing and realistic in its unique approach.
The cinematography
of My Blue Berry Nights really lends itself to the story as all the
vibrant colours of the locations are brought to life with a rawness
of emotions
and uniqueness that only the American countryside can portray.
Definitely one for those who enjoy realistic drama movies!
