Muse
Under Review
Even if you are not a Muse fan, it's quite
an interesting watch as this 106 minute documentary delves into the
history of one of the UK's hottest bands... Muse! What I enjoyed
about Muse Under Review that unlike most documentaries revolving
around musicians, it is quite grass roots and gives you another
perspective of this awesome band as opposed to the studio released
DVD's.
From interviews with key people in their
history such as former manager Safta Jaffery to their producer John
Lecki, it even speaks with music critics and NME journalist and Muse
biographer Mark Beaumont, giving the viewer a unique insiders look into
the band.
The interviews also help piece together the
puzzle of Muse and how they first formed their band which began in
Teignmouth England. It then explores their musical influences such as
Matt Bellaym's father who was actually a member of the 60's group
Tornados. By piecing this all together, you can see where their
inspirations came from and how their music has developed. It's quite a
fascinating insight.
Even though there are some rare Muse
performances on this release, I actually preferred the information that
was given to the viewer such as their difficulties in hitting the
American music markets to their first real concert that then opened
quite a few doors to the band. The music videos are a little ho-hum.
Video, Audio & Special Features
The only downside to this presentation is
that the video quality is a little bit of a mixed affair of good and
average. Some of the "rare" footage is a little raw and uncut but
overall, the quality is acceptable. The audio is unfortunately only
Dolby Digital 2.0 that really doesn't enhance their music but is still
clear. For special features, we have;
which gives the viewer some additional
information about one of the world's hottest bands. If you're a fan of
Muse, than this is a must have DVD for your collection and if you've
just jumped on the Muse bandwagon, this is the perfect history lesson! |
