Monster Garage Season 4
Starring Jesse James, season four of Monster Garage gives us more cars
to be souped up and crazy projects to undertake. Each episode sees
Jesse James working on a vehicle with his team as they undertake the
unthinkable within limited time frames and minute budgets.
There is a twist to the Monster Garage series and that is that there is
not necessarily a happily ever after for the vehicles or the team. If
the budget is not met or the vehicle doesn't do what Jesse has set out
for it, well that machine will bite the dust, often in spectacular
fashion.
I am not sure of what the back story is with this series as Season 4 has
the least episodes in it and James seems to spend very little time on
camera other than to show up and look surly. The teams that are
assembled are very enthusiastic and bring life to the show that it seems
that their host is not able to. My understanding from looking up more
information on the series online was that James did not even show up for
the last episode. Not sure what to make of that, it was just something
that I looked up.
It's going to seem like I am slamming this show but don't take that away
from this review. If you like hair brained experiments with cars, and I
do, then see past Jesse's apparent lack of enthusiasm and just check out
what they do with the cars. I compare this show with his work others
series and I just couldn't get into him.
Bear in mind this is the genius behind the West Coast Choppers business
and you might understand why I expected more.
One of my favourites in this series was Sour Kraut which oversaw the
conversion of an VW Beetle from the 50's into a modern day speed
machine. The Beetle was almost a totally rusted hulk, but the team get
in there and with the budget of 5000 dollars and donated equipment, we
end up with an amazing machine roaring down the drag strip. This is also
one of the earlier episodes for the season.
If you like your custom cars and wacky ideas, then you will most likely
enjoy this set. I would have too but for my money, Jesse James simply
was a downer host this season and we would have been served better with
a voice over.
