Maburaho Bewitched and Bewildered 1
Kazuki Shikimori has a problem in a
Harry Potter kind of way. He attends a prestigious school for magicians
however despite his lineage of a family of power, he is pretty useless
at almost everything he does. His major problem is that of his DNA
though. It sets him up that he can use his magic only eight times before
it burns him out, literally!
When news of his heritage is known to
others though, Kazuki becomes very popular with the ladies, but he has
to wonder if they are just after his birthright or do they really like
him? The fun really begins when we see the poor guy trying to deal with
the chicks and life in a magic school.
The way the story pans out is that no
one knows if Kazuki really cuts it as a powerful magician and not many
people care. The school keeps him there in hopes of continuing his
family tradition of producing the most powerful magicians in Japan,
however there is a core of people who believe that his offspring will
see even greater power than anyone who has gone before.
Magic is treated in this world as a
depleting source with you having so many uses of magic before it is
drained completely. Averaging 8000 uses for many students, Kazuki with a
count of only eight is not highly regarded by the general community,
viewed as nearly impotent in the magical sense of it all.
This series works with it’s unique
branding of loser/slacker humour in Kazuki and the overriding sexual
tension from the attention he ends up getting. We experience the
confusion with Kazuki and he becomes our hero whilst also being
concerned for him with each time he does use magic. Will he die? You
better watch this fun series and find out.
This disc has a load of great extras
but my fave would have to be the translator comments. He has a wealth of
information and it is freely shared, giving greater insight into the
world of Maburaho, well worth the watch (and listen)
