Furnace is your
clichéd horror movie that is set in a crowded maximum security
prison filled with some of the worst criminals in all of America.
When the prison is plagued by a series of unexplained deaths,
Detective Michael Turner (Paré) is sent to investigate why both the
guards and the prisoners appear to be committing suicide. Unbeknown
to Detective Turner, a small group of prisoners led by Terrence (Ja
Rule) and Fury (Danny Trejo) are planning an escape through a
deserted wing of the prison. This however is a small side story of
the main focus of Detective Turner.
Turner makes an
enemy with one of the head guards but finds an ally with the prison
counselor Ashley Carter (McShane) only to discover that these deaths
may be linked to supernatural causes. Strange shadows, unexplainable
deaths and nightmarish sounds makes Furnace your classic 21st
century horror with over the top acting, gory effects and good old
fashioned scares.
Directed by William
Butler and starring Michael Paré, Tom Sizemore, Danny Trejo, Ja
Rule, Paul Wall and Sarah McShane, Furnace is presented in 16:9
widescreen with exceptional quality that is slightly let down a
little by the 5.1 Dolby Digital audio. Even so, an enjoyable and
sometimes clichéd movie that had be jumping in my seat.
